  • NxCloud Licensing

Hello, I can't see that this has been asked before on this forum but please forgive me if it has.

How exactly does NxCloud licensing work when the traffic is coming from the public IP address of the client's router? , is this public IP considered as one user? and if so would I just purchase a license in the normal way with a license for enough users to cover the amount of client router public IPs I have?

    Many thanks in advance.

Nothing to forgive. You just asked a question and this forum for such kind of question. 😃

    You need to read these,
    https://nxfilter.org/tutorial/i-faq....c-license-user
    https://nxfilter.org/tutorial/f-busi...e-accounts.php

Simply speaking, we have an assumption that one user makes 1000 requests a day if it's a normal office worker by our stats so far. We only count A type DNS requests and we count unique requests only for licensing. You know there are 2 numbers on 'Report > Usage'. If there's are DNS requests for the same domain in a minute, that will be counted as one request. And we added 2000 more as a redundancy not to have license conflicts. So, one user can make 3000 requests against NxCloud in total.

If you want to allow an operator to have 100 users by change Max User to 100, it means the operator can make 100 x 3000 requests a day. And it will be deducted from your licensed user number. You can see those total numbers on the top of operator list.

If you install NxRelay in your user site, you can view their local IPs and you can count the exact user number. If it's a big site, using NxRelay will make things easier and safer for you and your operators. Since it has its own cache, it will reduce the number of DNS requests to NxCloud by a lot. And for NxRelay, NxCloud is a policy server not forwarding the queries from NxRelay to its upstream servers. Much lesser load for NxCloud in the end.

EDIT: I changed 3000 to 1000. I was confused with the numbers. Normally, a user makes around 1000 unique A type requests a day.

An old post I know but thought it made sense to continue from here.

What is the process if we need to increase the licensed user count? We are pottentially about to add another 200 users / operators which may push us over the current max license count.

      Thanks
