  • Report on Browser Traffic Only

    Good Morning,

We have been using NxFilter for a while now to successfully log, block and report on user's activity - using vxlogon.

Because this is a DNS filter, the reports show a slew of information for each user, most of which is background traffic - is there a way to filter the reporting to only show results which have been accessed directly from a browser? i.e. websites the users have actively opened?

    Kind regards,
    Iain.

Not possible. For NxFilter, those are all DNS traffic. If you don't need to filter those background traffics, you can enable 'Filter A Query Only' on 'Config > Setup > Misc'. We introduced this option with v4.5.3.2. Your browsers send A and AAAA queries only normally. You also can expect smaller traffic DB with the option.

Ah perfect, yes restricting to A/AAAA queries only would fit right for our requirements - we haven't upgraded for a while and are still on v4.5.2.8 so didn't see that option.
Thanks for the info, we shall get upgraded as soon as possible and enable that option. Cheers!
