  • Issues when trying to use NxUpdate...

I have a windows PC that I wanted to setup with NxUpdate (I had previously tried NxProxy, but without success). I installed the software, specified the IP of my NxFilter instance and the token for one of my users, but it never updated. So, I used the nslookup command as outlined in my documentation. This seemed to "kind of" work but all of my DNS requests appended the domain of the business at the end (some-pediatrics.com, let's say) and each DNS log entry had the error "Invalid license." Do you have any idea as to why it would behave this way?

Do you use Jahaslist? If it's Globlist, it doesn't support NxProxy.

For 'Invalid license' error, see if this is for you. https://tutorial.nxfilter.org/i-faq.php#invalid-license

For NxUpdate, I will talk to you after we check if there's any problem with the current version of NxFilter.

Did you look into /nxfilter/log/nxfilter.log file. .When there's NxUpdate signal, there will be some log message about that.

And when you say 'never updated', how did you know it's not updated? Do you run it in a private network? NxUpdate is for updating a public IP of a router to NxCloud basically. For what purpose, do you use it? Updating IP over cloud or for some kind of user identification in a private network?

I will check the nxfilter log on my NxFilter instance. It is hosted in a cloud instance and I have one or more sites which use it.

The purpose of using NXUpdate was so that a clinic that had an Internet circuit with a dynamic IP could use the content filtering. I say it "never updated" when I tried to use the NXUpdate service because all DNS requests that I would make to the NxFilter instance returned the IP of the NXFilter instance itself. It was not until I updated using the nslookup command that I started getting actual results, but it would not filter out blocked categories.

          Code:
          nslookup MYTOKEN.ipupdate.signal.nxfilter.org. NXFILTERIP
Where MYTOKEN is the token from the user account in my NXFilter instance and NXFILTERIP is the actual public facing IP address of my NXFilter instance.

When I tried running this a few times just now, this is what I saw in my nxfilter log:

If your NxUpdate sending signal this one should be increased. logAll.signalCnt = 0

And you have to see something on 'Logging > Signal'. Did you see anything there?

You get this kind of log message when there's IPUPDATE signal from NxUpdate on debug level.
              Code:
              DEBUG [2025-01-21 09:38:03] - RHr, RH #5, ipupdate.signal.nxfilter.org, rqSize = 0, rDc = 1, rTtl = 0, rType = 1, cltIp = 192.168.72.104.
              To enable debugging, https://tutorial.nxfilter.org/i-faq.php#enable-debug

I got it. I updated my instance using the update script and that seemed to clear it up. Go figure.
