John's question about Wi-Fi authentication.

This is a question from a private college that I support.

The college has a Windows domain network and web filtering is working as it should for the users. Any guests that wants to use their own device connects their laptop to the Wi-Fi and then type in their domain username and password to authenticate Internet access.

They now want me to remove the authentication on their Wi-Fi so that guests can access the Internet straight away using the Student web filtering group. Is this possible?

I can see that I can turn off authentication in Nxfilter but will this also turn off all web filtering for the college computer users as well? How can I get around this?

If you disable Authentication then there will be only one user. You can reserve some IP range for Wi-Fi and associate a user. That'd be better.

Hi,

I have done that but sadly I am unable to setup DHCP in the Wi-Fi controller to give out the IP addresses in the new range for the guest SSID. They have Cisco Business 150AX Access Points. Do you have any ideas how to get around this?

You can create a default user for whole IP range. If there're users using one of our SSO agents or any authentication method they will appear with their username otherwise they will be the default user.
