  • Usage Report Question

Hi, How is the Client IP column count determined in the Usage Report? It seems to be always about anywhere from 200 to 300 higher than the highest number I see in the Dashboard, see print screens below. The first print screen is a snapshot of every hour during office hours, between 12:00 and 14:00 is our busiest time. The second print screen shows the Usage Report for that same day, which shows 207 higher than the highest client I saw on the Dashboard. Thank you.

Usage report is about the number of unique IPs served a day. It's daily but dashboard is for 2 hours.

I took this to the test and ran a DNS Request Report for this past Sunday 2023-04-08 00:00 to 2023-04-08 23:59 and exported the results. Then I grouped all IP Addresses that were repeated together, so that now I was just left with a list of unique IP Addresses for that day, which were 716 unique IP addresses. Yet, your usage report claims 821 IP Addresses for 2023-04-08.

Never mind, I just noticed that the CSV Export doesn't export all the data, it cut half off. So I exported it in chunks of 6 hours and then merged them and did the same as above and now the numbers match. I find the numbers still high, but now at least I know NxFilter is correct, so I will have to figure out where the numbers come from.

If you have Active Directory, you can use User Authentication to find out who they are. You still can put everybody under the same policy by having a default user. You can create a user and associate your whole network IP range to it and then run some single sign-on agent.
