  • Basic Setup

Hey everyone, I'm new to all these networking stuffs. Anyway I've installed NxFilter on a PC (Let's say it's 192.168.0.3) and setup a few blocking rules. Now I have 3 more computers in the same network that I want to block some websites in. So what I did was, added the IP of the PC I installed NxFilter as the DNS IP in other computers. Is that how am I suppose to do that?

But it seems it's not blocking any websites and I don't see anything in DNS requests page too.

I've already added the users including their IP addresses too. Also enabled authenticating.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Do this on the CMD of one of those 3 PCs.

    Code:
    nslookup google.com
    And show me the result.

      This is what I get.

Seems like your setup is OK. You stil don't see any traffic from the PC on 'Logging > Request'?

I randomly see one or two requests but not anything related to websites that I've blocked. I can access the websites that i've blocked. This works fine for my own PC that I've been testing the rules and stuff but not in others.

Then try nslookup for the blocked website.

If you block it, you should get '192.168.0.3' as the answer. How did you block it?

Maybe you need to watch this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvYNJNiko9c&t=215s

I've created a new category and added all the domains that I wanted to block

I guess your problem has been solved then.

Not really. I just showed you how I blocked the domains to see if I did it wrong.
                      It's still the same.

Did you block the category in a policy?

Yes, I have it also blocked in the policy.

And when you 'nslookup twitter.com', it doesn't get blocked? And you don't see the request 'Logging > Request'?

Enable debugging and run it foreground and then try 'nslookup twitter.com' several times while you watching the log output on CMD. You can see what happens when you send queries.

                            To enable debugging, https://tutorial.nxfilter.org/i-faq.php#enable-debug

After you send those queries for twitter.com and you don't see nothing blocked or nothing on 'Logging > Request' then send me all the log files in /nxfilter/log at support@nxfilter.org.

Yeah it's still not working. I've sent you an email with the log file.
